Apostille, or legal marginal note
 and 'legalisation'

From time to time customers request that translations, besides being sworn by the translator (statement, stamp and signature), are provided with a so-called legal marginal note. The purpose of this is that the District Court where the signature of the sworn translator is registered, ratifies the latter's signature as it appears on the sworn translation.

The legal marginal note - available in Dutch, German, English, French and Spanish - can be obtained from the court in question, after submission of the sworn translation and payment of fees. The legal marginal note form is attached to the translation, signed and provided with a stamp by the bailiff.

 Treaty

The Netherlands have concluded a treaty concerning the legal marginal note with certain countries (see below). For all other countries, if the customer desires this, a so-called 'legalization' of the signature is required. This can be obtained in the Netherlands by submitting the sworn translation to three authorities in the given order.
